Enlisted for three years on 19 Feb 1862 in Door County and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 1 Mar 1862. Bounty $100. Private. Sent to hospital sick on 20 Jul 1862. Sent to hospital in Iuka, Mississippi, 21 Aug 1862. Took part in the bombardment at Island No. 10; was in the Battle at Perryville, Kentucky, 8 Oct 1862; in a skirmish at Lancaster, Kentucky, 14 Oct 1862; in the Battle of Stone’s River, 30-31 Dec 1862; in the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia, 20 Sep 1863. Was with the provision transport from Stevenson, Alabama, during October 1863. Sick in Chattanooga 21 Sep 1864. Sent to convalescent center. Assigned to Company H at Whiteside, Tennessee, 13 Jan 1865; then to 24th Infantry. Discharged from the service at Huntsville, Alabama, 13 Mar 1865, his term of service having expired. He is entered on the Roll of Honor for the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Army Corps, for his role in the Battle of Stone’s River. Died 14 Aug 1918. Burfied at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
