This is a traditional crazy quilt made of irregular pieces of wool, silk, and velvet. The seams between the pieces are decorated with a large variety of multicolored stitches. Primitive figures are embroidered on some of the pieces. The individual pieces were hand-sewn to 10.5″ foundation blocks. The blocks were sewn together by machine. There is a beautiful five inch border of burnished gold velvet around the quilt. The edges were finished by being folded over to the back and sewn down by hand. The quilt has been tied rather than quilted and the backing is of grey wool. There is not any batting.
The quilt was made from special occation dresses. While it was pieced in Minnesota, some of the material may orginally have come from Norway.
