ANDERSON, Ole A.

IA 3rd Inf Co D. Residence: Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Born 21 Oct 1833 in Vestre Slidre, Valders, Norway. Came to America in 1850. Civil War: Age 28. Enlisted 21 May 1861 as 2nd Lieutenant. Mustered 8 Jun 1861. Wounded in head dangerously 17 Sep 1861, at Blue Mills, Missouri. Shot in the left temple, ball remained in his head the rest of his life. Discharged from the service 16 Aug 1862 on account of wounds. Post war: On 17 Sep 1862 he married Mary Hanson Katterud. In 1885, they were living in Decorah at 407 East Water Street. Anderson was granted a pension of $50 a month because of the gunshot wound to his head. He died 29 Jan 1910 and is buried in Decorah Lutheran Cemetery, 50 yards inside Cemetery Drive gate, left side, near road; stone shows dates “1833-1910”.
