Became unfit for service and was discharged from the service for disability on 22 Jan 1863 at Nashville, Tennessee. Post war: Died of abcess on his lungs on 7 Jun 1905 at age of 65 and is buried in Green Hill Cemetery, Alexandria, South Dakota, lot 1, block 43, grave E.
