SANDBORG, Nicholas T.

MN 4th Inf Co F. Residence: Bancroft Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota. Born “Nicolai Theodore Sandborg” on 12 Oct 1831 at Trondhjem, Sør Trøndelag, Norway, son of Nicolai Nicolaisen and Trina. He came to America with his brother on “Embla”, which sailed from Christiania on 9 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 6 Jul 1849. They came to the St.Ansgar settlement in Mitchell County, Iowa, and later moved to Freeborn County, Minnesota. Married Elizabeth. Nine children. Civil War: Age 30. Enrolled for three years on 11 Oct 1861 at Albert Lea, Minnesota. Mustered the same day at Fort Snelling. Private. Treated for brain fever after the siege of Vicksburg. Promoted to Corporal. Discharged from the service on expiration of term, 22 Dec 1864. Post war: Operated a farm in Bancroft Township, Freeborn County for awhile; then a hardware business in Albert Lea.
