WI 1st Cav Co D. Born “Knud Knudsen Syverud” on 12 Jan 1843 at Nord Aurdal, Oppland, Norway, son of Knud Olsen Syverud and Astri Nilsdatter Opheim. He came to America with his parents and four siblings on “Lyna”, which sailed from Drammen, Buskerud, 8 Jun 1849, and arrived in New York on 14 Aug 1849. They came to Blue Mounds Township, Dane County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Farmer. Age 21. Blue eyes, brown hair, fair, 6’1½”. Enlisted for one year on 16 Sep 1864 at Madison, Wisconsin. Enlistment credited to Bristol, Dane County, Wisconsin. Mustered at Madison on 21 Sep 1864. Bounty $100. Recruit. Private. Post war: He was married to Inger Throndsdatter (1848-1921). Seven children.
