SIMPSON, Peter

IL 82nd Inf Co I. Residence: Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Born in Norway 14 May 1842, son of Seming N. Simpson and Dortha Eggen. Came to America in 1862; arriving in New York City and going immediately to Chicago. He arrived in Chicago at four in the morning and by nine that same morning, he had enlisted in the Union Army. Civil War: Blacksmith. Private. Post war: He settled in Eldora, Iowa. He married Ida M. Olson, born 1852, who had come to Canada from Norway in 1858. She later came to Eldora, Iowa. In 1869, Peter and his young wife homesteaded in Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. He was Sheriff of Lac qui Parle County for four years. In 1901, they moved into their nearby village and established a store, which they operated for three years. He died 15 Jun 1920 in Lac qui Parle.
