TX 46th Cav Co E. CSA. McCord’s Frontier Regiment. From Skimmeland, Moster in Bømlo, Norway. Civil War: Enlisted for one year on 8 Mar 1862 at Stephenville, Texas. Reenlisted for three years or the war on 10 Jun 1863 at Camp Salmon, Texas, as a substitute for Ole Winn, who had previously been discharged. Private. Served in Indian and Civil wars. Served in the Settlers’ “Home Guard” in the Indian wars, and in Texas units during the Civil war. On scout duty three separate occasions from 27 Jun 1863 until Jan 1864. Deserted 2 Aug 1864 at Eagle Lake. Rejoined his company at Camp Felder on 4 Oct 1864. Given extra duty assisting the Assistant Quartermaster. Deserted again on 18 Mar 1865 near Bastrop, and was thought to have gone to Mexico. Post war: K. R. Skimland died in Iowa in 1891. Brother of Elias R. and R. R. Skimland.
