Residence: Stoughton, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born 5 Sep 1835 in Sogndal, Bergen Parish, Norway. Came to America at age 20. Stayed two years in Wisconsin and went to New Orleans. Sailed to Australia. Stayed two years. Went to England, then to New Orleans. At outbreak of the war, he moved to Dane County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Private. Served in the Army Quartermaster department. Post war: He moved to Iowa for three years and then to Fillmore County, Minnesota. Lived at Amherst, Minnesota. Elected to the Minnesota legislature in 1879.
