WI 15th Inf Co E. Residence: Moscow, Iowa County, Wisconsin. Ole Steensland was born 29 Apr 1842 at farm Steinsland in Hjelmeland, Rogaland, Norway, son of Erik Asbjornson, who was born 1799 in Aakre, Ullensvang, Hardanger, and his wife, Ingeborg Olsdatter, who was born 1809 at farm Borve in Ullensvang. They came to America in 1854. He was a brother of Asbjorn Steensland of WI 46th Inf Co F. Civil War: Age 19. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 28 Oct 1861 in Iowa County. Mustered 8 Dec 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Missing in Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia, 20 Sep 1863. Taken up from missing on 30 Jun 1864, when it was learned that he was a prisoner of war in Richmond, Virginia. He spent more than 19 months in Libby and Andersonville prisons. He was exchanged out of Andersonville on 1 Apr 1865. Discharged 30 May 1865. Post war: Died at Blanchardville, Wisconsin, on 15 Aug 1902 and was buried at Perry, Daleyville, Wisconsin.
